Life in Florida.

Sorry for the random one picture, one video, no words blogs I've been posting lately. We're still settling in here and it seems like my time has been stretched way to thin these days. But we are doing wonderfully. Aside from snakes in the front yard, horse flies that think nothing of taking a chunk out of you, SKINKS!!!! ( AHhhhhhhhh, I hate them and I know for a fact we have at least three that call my backyard and greenhouse home. Ick.), and sweltering heat already in May we really do love it here.
We are 10 minutes from the beach. A wonderful, clean, seashell heaven where we can park the truck on the sand, break out the beach grill I won in the polar plunge in 04 I think, grill up some food and collect shells until we have no more room in our bag. Just this past Saturday we watched a rehabbed sea turtle being released back into the briny blue. <3 <3 <3 I will take pictures on our next beach adventure and share them here.
I'm getting a bajillion times better at updating here from my phone. Seems like I have finally hit upon a way to get videos from my phone to here so expect lots more soon.

Happy first half birthday wee man! Today our sweet lil guy is 6 months old. It's gone by way to quick but we've loved every second of it.

Home is where ...

Our heart is of course, and of course our hearts are with Mike so it stands to reason that home is in Florida now right? So why did I keep catching myself telling the kids yesterday that we had to go home now as we were getting ready to drive back to SC?

Moira: "Why are we leaving our new house? I love my new house."
Me: " We have to go home and feed the fish. Mommy forgot to ask someone to feed the fish while we were here and if we wait any longer they will starve and we don't want our zombie starfish leg to starve do we?"
Moira: " I thought this was home mommy. We will be back here tonight to watch movies w/ daddy right?"
Me: *insert the sound of my head hitting the steering wheel here.*

Up until today we really truly thought that we would finally be moving all of our stuff out of this house and into the new one this weekend. A cryptic email from the guy in charge of approving (for some reason I was thinking it had already been approved) our dity move Friday had us vaguely concerned but still hopeful non the less. Fast forward to today when said supplier of money for our move was awol from his office for the day and our hopes for being on our way this weekend were pretty much squashed. I teared up for the billionth time, got angry for the millionth. How dare he take a day off today! Doesn't this guy know how important it is for me to get my family back in one piece?
Oh yeah, he doesn't. It's kinda like when I yell at other drivers for stealing my parking spot ( no Sarah, they don't know you have 2 small kids in the car with you) or at the lady going 5 miles under the speed limit on Lincolnville ( Yeah, she has no clue Connor is screaming his poor little brains out in the back seat). So much misdirected anger. lol. Moira often repeats my fav phrase " awww c'mon" when things aren't going her way these days.
But back to the important part...home...equals heart...but what about Zombie and the rest of the Smith family fishy clan? And Moira desperately wants to know when she can have her harmonica that's been packed up for a month back. And I would love to be able to sleep in bed with my husband again someday. And then.....and then....
Looks like it's gonna be another 2 weeks before we can officially call Fernandina home. Another 2 weeks of head butting, an angry 3 year old, and a hole in my heart where my hubby should be. But we will get through it and after it's all over I'll look back and be amazed. Besides with my birthday quickly approaching as well I wonder if throwing a housewarming / birthday party mean I'll get two gifts instead of one? lol

It amazes me more and more just how quickly time flies by these days. It seemed like I just updated this days ago and yet the last time I posted was NYE. Crazy. I could have sworn one of my resolutions was to stop by and update more often and work on maybe possibly being able to write something more profound than " look at my kids...aren't they great" ( although we all know they are!).
Speaking of my adorable kids, since my last update we've celebrated Moira's third birthday ( Omg, talk about time flying!!!), seen Connors first tooth ( 3 months...seriously kiddo? let's not be in a hurry here.), bought a house in Fernandina Beach, Florida ( notice I didn't say "moved to"?), and spent about a month and a half with Mike working in GA during the week and coming home on weekends. We've said to goodbyes to dear dear friends and spent hours packing. We've painted the new house and made grandiose plans for kitchen remodels and landscaping projects.
Only the kids and I are still here in SC....still in limbo...and although an end is supposedly in sight, I have learned to never be surprised when the Navy is involved. Oh, and not to plan to far in advance either. Neither of which are a good thing when babies desperately miss their daddy and most of our stuff is in boxes in the dining room or spare room. Moira is starting to get angry when she can't find something or when I tell her what she is looking for is packed. I'm amazed the wailing and gnashing of teeth can't be heard all the way to VA. And Connor is just Connor, sweet cheerful goofy lil Connor. What an amazing lil guy he is and so deliciously different than his sister. I love them both so much and can't wait for all of this to be done so we can settle in our new house. With daddy. Where we belong. <3
